From Rain to More Record Heat

July 24th, 2009 by Burton

For the first time in 16 days, we avoided triple digits yesterday and we might be able to do the same again today! A few morning rain showers (radar loop) and clouds will eventually turn to hot sunshine, maybe hot enought to break records again this weekend.

Slick streets may result from these morning showers, with an overall 30% chance for rain. Relish the wet stuff!!  A trace fell through 8am in Austin.

Upper-level high pressure dominating the southwest will influence our area by providing more sunshine and less disturbed weather in the Lone Star State for a few days. But, by Sunday, we see another summer front approaching the Red River Valley and it’s expected to sink to our area Monday to Tuesday.

Much like the last few days, anticipate thicker clouds in the skies and the potential for more showers and storms early next week. Check out the 8-day forecast.

Eclipse on Satellite… We saw many fantastic views of this week’s total solar eclipse as the shadow of the moon crossed Asia.  Take a look at the Japan Meteorological Agency’s atellite loop — a entirely different perspective on the event!

El Nino Update… Sea surface temps along the equatorial Pacific continue to warm, a sign that the El Nino is strengthening and will likely continue to do so through next January, according to an ensemble of computer models.

This ocean-atmosphere connection is predicted to bring wetter and cooler than normal conditions to Texas from fall through the upcoming winter.

Have a great Friday and enjoy your weekend.
