Warm, Mild Halloween

October 31st, 2008 by Burton

Vampires beware: we’re in for lots of sunshine and fairly warm afternoon 80s before the creatures of the night have their time! Spooky morning clouds open up to frighteningly clear skies for trick-or-treaters after sunset.

We might even find some freaky fog here around here next few mornings as Gulf humidity continues to pump into Central Texas. Bone-chilling cold from earlier in the week flew out like a bat in the night, leaving high temps in the low 80s on average feeling rather warm as we put the nail on the October coffin.

Futurecast indicates no rainfall across much of Texas through the weekend, though it wouldn’t be too shocking to find some dismal drizzle along with the daybreak overcast.

A Treat… It may be a bit warm under costumes during the day then temps begin to drop like a guillotine after our 6:44pm sunset. Upper 70s at 6pm will turn to upper 60s by midnight. Be safe, and send us your photos!! Watch ‘Weather on the Eights’ through the weekend to see ‘em on TV.

Here’s hoping the costumes include umbrellas out on the west coast, because a large swing of low pressure has turned it the “wet coast” yet again. High pressure over Texas will block any big weather changes in the next five days, then we’ll eventually get a taste of that Pacific system by next Thursday as it looks now on our 8-day forecast.

Texas at Tech… Our #1 Horns head to Lubbock to battle the Red Raiders Saturday at 7:00pm. Temps at kickoff in the mid to low 70s under partly cloudy skies come with southwest winds around 10 mph. Hook ‘Em!

Time Change Sunday…We gain an extra hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time ends. Clocks should be set back one hour Sunday morning. At the same time, remember to put fresh batteries in all smoke detectors.

Here’s my little Bandit in has favorite mask nibbling on a fake pumpkin!

October Ending Warmer

October 30th, 2008 by Burton

Time for short sleeves again! The 80s return this afternoon, the beginning of a five to six day stretch of above normal temps. You’ll also notice a few more clouds in those skies…

Southerly winds bring back some humidity to what’s been a very dry atmosphere this week, resulting in some scattered low clouds and maybe even a patch or two of morning fog. It’ll be a repeating feature in our weather through the weekend.

By lunch, winds become breezy and could gust upwards of 15mph through midday before taming back down at sunset. Expect high temps in the upper 70s for the Hills and right near 80 degrees along I-35.

A small disturbance swirling into the Central Plains will soon drop to the lower Mississippi Valley, moving a little further east than once anticipated. That slight change and the strengthening of high pressure over Texas means we’ll be on a warmer track until our next fall fall front arrives around Wednesday, as seen on the 8-day forecast. And, so far, confidence in this next front isn’t terribly high.

Halloween Fright… Dry, mild weather will make trick-or-treating even more enjoyable on Halloween. A few spooky afternoon clouds will clear out around our 6:44pm sunset Friday, with upper 70s around 7pm dropping to upper 60s by midnight. Be sure to send us your photos then watch for them to air on ‘Weather on the Eights!’ Boo!!

Texas at Texas Tech… Our #1 Horns battle the Red Raiders Saturday at 7pm. Kickoff temps in the low 70s come with a southwest wind of 5 to 12mph.

Time Change Sunday…We gain an extra hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time ends. Clocks should be set back one hour Sunday morning. And don’t forget: it’s a great time to change those batteries in all your smoke detectors.

Enjoy your Thursday.
